Fibonacci is fine!!!!

Yesterday it rained!! We can’t have had rain since January. The Labradors had a lovely walk in the rain at the dam, the rain was very soaking and they smelled of wet wool all morning!!! I didn’t do very much at all until I went to Di’s for tea at about 4-30 pm. We had lovely soup and savoury muffins for tea. Di gave me apricot and blueberry jam too, freshly made. I was home by 8-15. I didn’t watch any TV and I was in bed by 10!!! This morning I had to be up bright and early as I had to have my port flushed and blood taken. Then I dawdled and pottered about, posted a gift to an author who sent me a free copy of a book I was looking for, and read a magazine in the car until 10. I figured that was a reasonable hour to go to Karen’s. She was having her eye operated on at lunch time and I was dropping her off.
We watched “In the Shadow of Za’ha’dum” ( not sure if that is spelled correctly!!!) What an excellent episode of Babylon 5. mind you, we fast forwarded through the doctor’s pontificating. It was so exciting and you really felt that the real story was beginning.
Then I came home and had some noodles and I am planning on going for a nap now.
The Pope has died and he has usurped all of the TV schedule. I taped a programme about the Normans on SBS and it was all the Pope when I went to watch it. In the First world, he has forced millions of people, mostly women, away from the church . In the Third world he has caused millions to die from AIDS by banning the used of condoms. He was not a man of his times, he was a man of 500 years ago times. We are likely to get more of the same as he has appointed all but 3 of the over 100 Cardinals who will elect his successor. No wonder there are so many of us well and truly lapsed!!!
My sister emailed me a picture of my niece’s maths homework so I could explain it to them. How cool is that? It was manipulating the Fibonacci sequence : 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21 etc. It is a sequence found in spirals in Nature and in the Golden rectangle. You make the pattern by adding 2 consecutive numbers to make the next : 1+1=2, 1+2=3, 2+3=5 and so on. I really like Fibonacci numbers!!! But I like all numbers and Maths so it is no surprise.
In honour of my jam I have a recipe for muffins using marmalade, but you could substitute the jam, rind and nuts you like best!!

Marmalade and Almond Muffins
300 g plain flour
4 tspn baking powder
50-100 g nuts
150 g caster sugar
1 tbspn grated rind
125 ml marmalade or jam
2 eggs
125 ml milk
Topping:
65 ml marmalade/jam
40 ml water
Preheat oven to 200 C ( 180 ff) and you’ll need 12 muffin papers in the tin.
Sift flour and baking powder, stir in nuts, sugar and rind. Pour melted butter, milk, marmalade and eggs into a well and mix briefly. Spoon into muffin papers and bake for 20 minutes. Stand in the tin for 5 minutes and then cool on a rack.
Heat topping ingredients till almost boiling and pour over warm muffins. I like to make twice the topping!!!!
